Marijuana and Driving: A Review of the Scientific Evidence

  • Who said it (Author?)
NORML, an organization working to reform marijuana laws
  • From what point of view? (Author/Context)
This organization, unlike the last article I found, is strongly in favor of a more open use of marijuana. They rely on studies that have shown a minimal affect of marijuana on drivers.
  • To Whom? (Reader/Audience)
Anyone interested in this issue
  • According to what principles? (Any professional contexts or constraints?)
To begin with, this organization has a clear stance on marijuana. I think that effects the studies they choose to look at.
  • Against whom? To what end? With what financing? With what type of proof?
They support the use of marijuana, and they claim that it does not have a large negative effect on drivers. After an hour, they say, there is no change whatsoever in the person's behavior.
  • Which principles that you are learning in They Say/I Say are being followed? Any ignored or absent?
They quote a very wide variety of sources. They include many different situations, such as Drive Test Stimulator studies, On-Road performance studies, and summaries of many other pieces of evidence.

  • This week, take note of anything you notice about the rhetorical uses of color, multimodal textual features, elements and contrast in the articles,
The color scheme of the NORML website is a variety of light/darker green. They organize their studies with a series of bolded titles. Also, there is a place to sign in order to legalize marijuana.
